All axes are oriented such that moving to up on the y-axis and right on the x-axis corresponds to moving in the “preferred” direction for an antibody property (lower neutralization IC50, lower KD, higher breadth, narrower epitope size, lower escapability, lower total frequency of SARS-CoV-2 escape mutants among sequences on GISAID). b, Additional viral escape selections, as in Fig. 3a. For S309, we also include the E340A mutation identified in selections of authentic SARS-CoV-2 by Cathcart et al.24.
