An occluded active site channel in 3HPA-bound Av3MDO. In contrast to the resting-state structure of Pa3MDO (A) in which the active site is readily accessible to organic substrate through a passageway marked by an arrow on the left view and a dashed circle on the right view, the active site of Av3MDO (B) is completely sealed to bulk solvent due to positional differences in Tyr61, Pro88, and Phe180 (directionality differences with respect to the corresponding residues in Pa3MDO indicated by arrows). The structures are shown as Connolly surfaces.
