Prior to analysis, the variables serum FGF21, BMI and age were ln-transformed. Alcohol consumption was operationalized by the scale ‘food alcoholic’. Assessments were done using linear regression for alcohol consumption and binary logistic regression for smoking status. A p-value 0.05 was considered to be significant and was highlighted in bold.
