Passage of hepatitis C virus in the absence or presence of favipiravir or ribavirin. (A) scheme of the serial passages starting from populations HCV p0, HCV p100, and HCV p200. The origin of each virus is described in the text. Numbers inside circles identify the drug present in each viral lineage (inserted box). Each population depicted by an encircled number was analyzed by UDS to quantify mutations and draw mutational waves. For HCV p0, the analyses were restricted to the initial populations because, at later passages, favipiravir and ribavirin led to virus extinction [19,34]; (B) viral titers in the Huh-7.5 reporter cell culture supernatants quantified for the populations depicted in (A). These infectivity data have been previously published [19], and are included here for completeness.
