Mitochondrial response to DNA damage. DNA damage can induce RCD by eliciting Ca2+ transfer from ER to mitochondria which cause mPTP opening and inducing p53 activation. This favors expression of mitochondrial pro-apoptotic factors as well as MOMP engagement. Further DNA damage response can exert both positive and negative regulation of mitophagy which antagonizes MOMP.
