During the UVA irradiation, the imbalance of reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes the down-regulation of Nrf2-regulated antioxidant defense including GST and NQO-1, leading to the promotion of the MMP-1 responsible for collagen degradation. HRF could represent a promising strategy for delaying the process of photoaging via the inhibition of MMP-1.
