Comparison of the active cases when η = 1/4 for two values of C_c. When $C_c=4C_c^{\ast }$ then there is a long period of time with no cases. However, a large outbreak forms since there is too much fatigue to isolate again when cases get large. Conversely, when $C_c=C_c^{\ast }/4$, a mild wave occurs early on because there is little incentive to isolate. However, since people were not isolating for very long, it is easier to endure further isolation when a second wave comes which leads to it also being mild. We note that when $C_c=C_c^{\ast }/4$ the critical threshold N_crit is never exceeded so there is no overburden healthcare cost.
