7 April 2021	New search has been performed	A search of the Cochrane Cystic Fibrosis and Genetic Disorders Group's Haemoglobinopathies Trials Register identified 13 potentially‐eligible references, five of these were additional references to an already‐excluded trial (Chandy 2005); the remaining eight references were excluded after title or abstract review. The term 'thalassaemia major' has been replaced by the term 'transfusion‐dependent thalassaemia' throughout the review.
