Histological sections of liver stained with Hematoxylin & Eosin from C57BL/6 STZ-induced diabetic mice, + /- Saccharomyces boulardii (0.5 × 108 colony-forming units, THT 500,101 strain, Probiotics and Starters Cultures, Belgium) for 8 weeks. Control (a) and Control treated with S. boulardii (b) show normal hepatocytes organization. The diabetic group (c) showed hepatocytes with signs of hydropic degeneration which consists in enlarged cells and clear cytoplasm due to the presence of small clear vacuoles with indistinct shape and limits (→), and in diabetic group treated with S. boulardii (d) it is attenuated.
