Rifabutin monotherapy in the HFS-MAC and resistance emergence (A-C). Kill curve and emergence of rifabutin resistance with each of the three exposures tested in the HFS-MAC. Though there were no pre-existing rifabutin resistance colonies recorded in the inoculum, monotherapy led to rapid rifabutin resistance and entire MAC population was rifabutin resistant on day 25 (D). Relationship between the rifabutin exposure and bacteria burden using the inhibitory sigmoid E_max model. The EC₅₀ was calculated as AUC/MIC of 118.4 on day 7 of the study.
