The transactivation of target genes results in KSHV reactivation and apoptosis. In addition, SBHA induces modification of p53, resulting in its activation of the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis. SBHA induces NF-κB activation in PEL cells, but its antiapoptotic role is limited.
