Methods RCT, cross‐over design. Single‐entre study
Participants Total number of participants: 20
Inclusion criteria: acute respiratory failure; spontaneously breathing patients
Exclusion criteria: none in abstract
Interventions Three 60‐minute trials with the following therapies in random order.
Intervention (HFNC): flow = 60 L/min
Control 1: (NIV)
Control 2: (standard oxygen therapy)
Outcomes All outcomes reported: lung ultrasound aeration score; diaphragm thickening fraction; diaphragm excursion
