Methods	Randomized controlled trial
Participants	Patients scheduled for elective total abdominal hysterectomy (with or without salpingo‐oophorectomy or minor bladder repair) or myomectomy through a lower transverse or low midline incision under general anaesthesia, incidental appendectomy and/or abdominal lipectomy, 18 to 65 years of age, female, non‐lactating
Interventions	Dexamethasone (0.1 mg/kg) 1.5 hours before induction of anaesthesia or dexamethasone (0.2 mg/kg) 1.5 hours before induction of anaesthesia or saline
