Study name Individual nutrition therapy and exercise regime: A controlled trial of injured, vulnerable elderly (INTERACTIVE trial)
Methods RCT
Participants N = 460
Inclusion criteria: community‐dwelling, aged > 70, in hospital after a proximal femoral fracture, MMSE ≥ 18/30, body mass index between 18.5 kg/m2 and 35 kg/m2
Exclusion criteria: pathological fracture, unable to give consent, medically unstable 14 days after surgery
Interventions 1. Intervention: 6‐month individualised exercise and nutrition programme commencing within 14 days post‐surgery. Weekly home visits.
2. Attention control. Weekly social visits.
Outcomes Falls monitored at weekly visit for 6 months. 12‐month follow‐up in the community
