Brain CYP2D and UGT2B7 mediate the metabolism of codeine and morphine. CYP2D catalyzes the demethylation of codeine into morphine. UGT2B7 mediates the glucuronidation of positions 3 and 6 of the hydroxyl groups of morphine into M3G and M6G.
