Detail of a postero-anterior standing radiograph of both feet following first metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis, in a 48 year-old female. Fusion of the hallux was achieved on the right foot but not on the left. Note the radiolucent line surrounding the implants in the metatarsal end of the fusion, and the periosteal reaction around the screw head. Revision surgery showed the presence of coagulase-negative staphylococci
