Blocking phagocytosis by cytochalasin D does not seem to significantly impact mosquito susceptibility to oral or systemic Sm injections. Survival of noninjected mosquitoes or mosquitoes preinjected with either PBS, DMSO, or cytochalasin D was monitored over a period of 10 days following oral (OD₆₀₀ = 1) (a) or systemic (b) Sm infections. One representative experiment is shown from at least 3 independent biological experiments. The Kaplan-Meier survival test was used to calculate the percent survival. Statistical significance of the observed differences was calculated using the log-rank test. Sm, Serratia marcescens.
