Proposed biosynthesis pathway of alteramide A in HM-SA03. Successive rounds of PKS biosynthesis produce partially reduced polyketides that are condensed onto the two amino groups of ornithine. The peptide-polyketide chain is cyclized internally and released. Further cyclizations between the polyketide chains produce the 5-membered rings of alteramide A. Stereochemistry of alteramide A is from reference 56.
