Interaction of astrocytes with brain metastatic cancer cells. Metastatic cancer cells release cGAMP to reprogram astrocyte behaviour and increase STAT3 signalling. In turn, astrocytes form gap junctions with metastatic cancer cells in the brain to exchange stimulatory signals, such as TNF and IFNα, which activate STAT1 and NF-κB pro-tumorigenic signalling.
