A hallmark of dilative cardiomyopathy is a compromised TCA cycle activity and glycolysis resulting in decreased peripheral lactate levels along with metabolites associated with oxidative stress like glutathione. Furthermore, elevated eicosanoids suggest cellular stress with consecutive activation of protective pathways with increased sphingomyelin levels. TCA, tricarboxylic acid.
