The cells from the precultures were diluted 100-fold into fresh TMM and incubated with shaking until the turbidity of the exponentially growing cells reached 100 Klett units. CdCl2 (1 μM) was added or not, and incubation was continued until the turbidity reached 150 Klett units. The AE104 parent, ΔcadR (ΔRmet_2302), and ΔzntRRmet_3456) cells were harvested by centrifugation, and the cellular metal content was determined by ICP-MS. Values are means and deviations for ≥3 experiments.
