Shannon alpha diversity showing that the microbiome of Macrobdella decora ILF is more diverse than that of Hirudo verbana but that this is not true of the intestinum microbiomes. All samples were collected before feeding or more than 90 days after feeding. Alpha diversity does not change between the ILF and intestinum of wild-caught M. decora (white) but increases in farm-raised H. verbana (gray). A Wilcoxon rank-sum analysis with Bonferroni correction was used to compare sample groups. Significant P values (<0.05) are given above lines indicating comparisons.
