The original data are from Hamilton and Holm-Hansen (1967) where the original measurement of carbon content of a cell has been converted to cell volume using the relationship in Løvdal et al. (2008), and ATP mass per cell has been converted to counts per cell. The data follow $n_{a} = a_{0} V_{c}^{β_{a}}$ with $β_{a} = 1.41 \pm 0.22$
