CB[8] is temporarily caged by bivalent FGG-peptide 1 that cleaves upon UV-light radiation, which substantially reduces the affinity of the individual cage elements for CB[8]. This liberates the CB[8] to bind and activate two monomers of caspase-9. Also shown is control cage 2 that cannot be light-inactivated.
