Bone Ca [g/kg] in female (A) and male (B) rats from the control group and the test groups. Rats were subjected to 4 min swimming sessions for 9 weeks in either cold water at 5 °C or at a thermally comfortable temperature of 36 °C. The first swimming session was 2 min long (day one) increasing by 0.5 min per day to 4 min (day five of the first week). Results are presented as means and standard deviations. * p < 0.05 the level of statistical significance vs. the control group (Mann–Whitney U test). # p < 0.05 level of statistical significance vs. the 5 °C group (Mann–Whitney U test).
