Arterial dilation occurs through activation of TRPA1 in sensory nerves. TRPA1 channel activation on sensory nerves results in Ca2+-dependent release of CGRP, which in turn binds to CGRP receptors on the plasma membranes of VSMCs to cause hyperpolarization and relaxation.
