Atopic dermatitis (AD) is increasing in prevalence in both pediatric and adult populations in East Asian countries.
A complex interplay between genetics and environmental factors are likely to underlie the increasing burden of AD among Asians.
Children of Asian immigrants may be at a particularly higher risk of developing AD.
Genetic polymorphisms implicated in AD are common among Asian populations around the world, and different from those among other ethnic populations.
There are unique and different pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying AD in Asians.
