Extracellular Heat Shock Proteins (eHSPs) induce extracellular matrix (ECM) remodelling, epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT), migration and invasion. eHSPs released by cancer cells can interact with extracellular client proteins favouring ECM remodelling and with surface receptors, triggering signal transduction inside the cells (HSPG heparan sulfate proteoglycans, FN fibronectin, PDPN podoplanin)
