A summary of the main results. Colour qualities and sharpness qualities, as assessed against contrast responses to colourful panoramic scenes, do not differ dramatically between parafoveal and peripheral visual fields. The values here are the arithmetic means of values below 5 degrees (for a ‘parafoveal’ measure) and above 15 degrees (for a ‘peripheral’ measure) for data shown in Figs. 6, 8, and 10.
