Concentration of six neurotransmitters: Serotonin or 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), 5-Hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), dopamine (DA), 3,4-Dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC), homovallinic acid (HVA), and norepinephrine (NE) were determined in the right brain half in A) male and B) female juvenile rats, showing mean ± standard deviation. The concentrations of HVA and NE was significantly decreased in the brain for both male and female pups, while 5-HIAA was increased only in male pups.
