Growth rates in g/day were obtained as the slopes of fitted lines shown in Figure 3. The reported growth rates are for the rapid growth stage. The growth rates were converted into C-mol/day, using the equation r(C-mol/day) = r(g/day)/M_bio, where M_bio is the average molar mass for the plant species (Table 2).
