Actively growing cultures of B. burgdorferi strains were spotted onto slides for IFA analyses as detailed in the text. Panel A, non-permeabilized (air dried) B. burgdorferi B31MI; Panel B, acetone permeabilized B. burgdorferi B31MI; Panel C, acetone permeabilized B. burgdorferi B31 2E6 (ospA gene inactivation mutant). Dark-field (DF) and fluorescent images are provided. The slides were screened with preimmune serum or antiserum as indicated along the top of the figure.
