Main properties and advantages of the use of nanoparticles and TMZ analogs in cancer treatment. The advantages of the use of nanoformulations in cancer treatment derive from their physicochemical properties, composition, structure, and passive and active targeting to the tumor tissue. Such properties increase their half-life in the bloodstream and their specificity for the tumor tissues, enabling the overcoming of drug resistance mechanisms as well. The analogs of TMZ conserve de mechanism of action of TMZ but provide some advantages such as avoiding the overexpression of MGMT in tumor cells or increasing its concentration in the brain while decreasing the concentration in plasma.
