In the left plot, five k-shells are represented with different colors. In the right plot, an expanded view of the innermost k-shell—basically overlapping with the properly defined core identified by the bimodular surprise—is represented. Notice the presence of communities, found through the Louvain algorithm and emerging as a consequence of factors as diverse as the Twitter campaign born in support of the center-left candidate Laura Boldrini, the visit of Matteo Renzi in Bologna, the presence of Massimo D’Alema (another leader of the center-left alliance) in the radio show ‘Circo Massimo’.
