Fig. 1.
Genome contexts of nagB1 and nagB2 and SDS-PAGE profile of the recombinant proteins. (A) In the draft genome of P. str. FPU-7, nagB1 was found in the neighborhood of nagA, which encodes GlcNAcase. NagB1 was predicted to be a saccharide solute-binding protein. The two genes adjacent to nagB1 were predicted to encode a two-component regulatory sensor histidine kinase and a response regulator. (B) The nagB2 gene, which is homologous to nagB1, was also found in the genome. The two genes adjacent to nagB2 were predicted to encode transmembrane domains (TMDs) of ABC transporter proteins. (C) NagB1 and NagB2 were prepared as recombinant proteins in E. coli. Protein bands were stained with CBB R-250. Lane M, molecular mass standards (kDa); lane 1, partially purified recombinant NagB1; lane 2, partially purified recombinant NagB2.
