PDAC is associated with increases in stromal volume, collagen fibre thickness, collagen crosslink density, hyaluronic acid, reduced laminin, and a switch from cell–cell connections to integrin mediated cell-ECM connections providing a bridge between the contractile cytoskeleton and the ECM.
