Model of lipid and fatty acid (FA) absorption in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). First, the expression of CD36 was enhanced by glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2) in the intestinal villi, followed by an increase in FA uptake into the intestinal cells. Second, triglycerides (TGs) were synthesized from long-chain fatty acids, which were incorporated into chylomicrons in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) via microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP). Third, the synthesized chylomicron was secreted from the ER and flowed into the lymphatic vessels via the Golgi apparatus.
