Detection strategies for CoVID‐19. A. qRT‐PCR, arguably the gold standard. B. Antigen testing, a rapid and cheap alternative, that is less sensitive than rt‐RT‐PCR. C. RT‐LAMP, a modern method using multiple primers that generates concatenated products. D. SHERLOCK, another modern method using Cas enzymes (Cas13 is shown here) that gain activity dependent on a specific interaction with an amplicon derived from the viral genome. All methods could be harnessed for new screening technologies against zoonotic diseases; only some are apposite for deployment in at risk areas.
