The only fatty acid-derived HC in C. reinhardtii (7-heptadecene) is generated from cis-vaccenic acid by FAP only when cells are exposed to blue light. The fatty acid precursor must be released from a thylakoid lipid by an unknown lipase. The 7-heptadecene FAP product may play several roles in thylakoid membranes depending on temperature and light conditions.
