Shear-reversible microsphere-chondrocyte aggregates. Chondrocytes and peptide-modified alginate microspheres form aggregates due to binding between chondrocyte integrin receptors and microsphere peptide ligands. During injectable delivery, aggregates can dissociate at high shear (B) and then re-associate (A) at drug delivery sites possessing low shear stress, such as sites of cartilage damage.
