Effect of the thickness of the BPM (or its individual layers). Thicker membranes negatively impact the conductance while improving the water-splitting efficiency in favor of the WDR at the interface layer (see the Supporting Information for further explanation). Both parameters are influenced by the current density, as the flux of H+ and OH increases faster than the flux of co-ions (schematically shown in (c)), resulting in a higher water-splitting efficiency and conductance.
