Classification of phenolic compounds. (Poly)phenols are classified into two main groups: flavonoids and non-flavonoids (62). Flavonoids are subclassified as anthocyanins, flavanol, flavanones, flavanols, flavonones, and isoflavones (62, 63). Non-flavonoid compounds include phenolic acids, stilbenes, and lignans.
