Correction to: Environmental Science and Pollution Research

10.1007/s11356-021-13885-8

The original publication of this article contains a mistake in the Introduction section. The referencing to the papers Improta et al. (2015) and Buttinelli et al. (2016) is wrong and bad posed. The correct text is: "Since 2010, several studies and field analyses have detected anomalous levels of heavy metal and hydrocarbons being present in the lake sediments and water (Colella 2012; Colella and D’Orsogna 2014)", which replaces the previous one: "Since 2010, several studies and field analyses have detected anomalous levels of heavy metal and hydrocarbons being present in the lake sediments and water (Colella 2012; Colella and D’Orsogna 2014); among others, seismicity induced by hydraulic fracturing and other injection-based oil extraction techniques have been implicated in such contaminations (Improta et al. 2015; Buttinelli et al. 2016).
