Schematic presentation of the function of MST4 in regulating intrahepatocellular lipid storage. Silencing of MST4 stimulates lipid droplet catabolism through enhanced β‐oxidation and TAG secretion, and inhibits lipid droplet anabolism through suppressed FFA influx and TAG synthesis. Furthermore, knockdown of MST4 protects hepatocytes from oxidative and ER stress. The opposite effects on lipid storage and metabolic stress are seen when MST4 is overexpressed.
