FIG. 7 — Model depicting the roles of CD63 in the production of mature HBV particles and subviral particles. CD63 might enhance the incorporation of LHBs to the viral envelope, and simultaneously, it might suppress the transcription of 2.4/2.1 kb mRNA, leading to reduction of envelope proteins LHBs, MHBs, and SHBs. Overall, CD63 promotes the efficient production and release of infectious HBV particles, and its suppression induces secretion of subviral particles and viral particles that are less infective.
