Histologic appearance of LM compared to non-LM melanoma in situ. a Demonstrates the lentiginous and sometimes nested growth of atypical melanocytes on the background of sun damaged skin with associated epidermal atrophy and solar elastosis characteristic in of LM. The peripheral edge of LM is poorly defined both clinically and histologically, as shown in b, making complete histologic excision difficult.
