Infection histories consist of the lineage of first infection and lineages encountered later regardless of their order. Probabilities were estimated by fitting the model to case data from New Zealand. (A,0,0): first infection before 1988 and no subsequent infections with either B/Victoria or B/Yamagata. (A,Y,0) and (A,V,0): first infection before 1988 followed by B/Yamagata but not B/Victoria and by B/Victoria but not B/Yamagata, respectively. (A,{V,Y}): first infection before 1988 followed by infections with both B/Victoria and B/Yamagata in any order. (Y,V) and (Y,0): first infection with B/Yamagata, with and without a subsequent B/Victoria infection. (V,Y) and (V,0): first infection with B/Victoria, with and without a subsequent B/Yamagata infection. (0): fully naive to influenza B.
