Aberrant Chlamydia forms differ in their abilities to synthesize immunostimulatory peptidoglycan. A HEK hNOD1 SEAP reporter cell line was utilized to quantify the relative abundances of PG shed when cells were infected with C. trachomatis in the presence of ampicillin (AMP) (a), the iron chelator DPP (a and b), and interferon gamma (IFN) (c). TriDAP was used in each experiment as a positive control for NOD1 signaling, and the Null1 cell line was used as a negative control. Data presented are the means from three independent biological replicates, and error bars represent standard deviations from the means. **, P < 0.005; ns, not significant.
