Values are the mean (SE) of Larson's modified Keyes' scores (Larson, 1981). 20 mice per group. Total smooth surface caries is the sum of buccal, lingual, and proximal caries, representing surfaces juxtaposed to the cheeks, tongue, and an adjacent tooth, respectively. Severity scores are: E (enamel affected), Ds (dentin exposed), Dm (3/4 of the dentin affected), and Dx (whole dentin affected). Comparisons are by ANOVA with Tukey–Kramer post-hoc test at 95% and 90% confidence.
