βHB potentiates the antioxidant defense in a Trx1-dependent manner. (A) Trx1 knockdown inhibits βHB-induced Trx1 upregulation. Cardiomyocytes were treated with Trx1 short hairpin RNA (shTrx1) adenovirus vector for 3 days and with 1 mM βHB for 16 h. The expression of Trx1 was examined using Western blot analysis. n = 5–6. (B) βHB inhibits H2O2-induced cardiomyocyte death in a Trx1-dependent manner. (C) A high dose of βHB (10 mM) did not significantly inhibit H2O2-induced cardiomyocyte death.
